General Aviation Day 05/20/2006 : As I wandered around the Paine Field General Aviation Day site, I felt like I was taking the same pictures as I had the previous year - until I spied the Adventure Helicopter and thought "hmmm...now that's how I can get some pictures that I've never taken before!" My helicopter adventure was so amazing that I went twice!

Snohomish in Flood 11/08/2006 : As I raced along I-5 from Kamiak horn coaching to my Everett law office, I was struck by the ocean on the wrong side of the road. All of a sudden, I had an urge to fly with my camera - this flood was helicopter-worthy! So I called my friends at Adventure Helicopters and within 45 minutes I was airborne! The devastation was on a scale which I have never witnessed - my heart goes out to the victims.

Mukilteo Lighthouse Ceremony 03/01/2006 : Mukilteo, WA - Over one hundred people gathered to help the Mukilteo Historical Society kick off its celebration of Mukilteo Lighthouse Station's 100th anniversary "100 Years of Light". The celebration consisted of four parts: MHS volunteers dressed in 1906 period costumes met and greeted all guests, an MHS historical reenactment of the first lighthouse keeper Peter Chritiansen (played by MHS volunteer Tom Bouchard) and his wife Theodine Christiansen (played by MHS President Ellen Koch) reading the March 02 1906 Everett Morning Tribune (overflow crowd necesitated two performances), a symbolic lighting of the Lighthouse Lights by current Mayor Joe Marine ( representing the present and future) and ex-mayor Don Doran (representing the past), and a lovely MHS reception featuring 1906 foods.

Quotes:
MHS President Ellen Koch said that "I was amazed and surprised that so many people came to celebrate. Lots of people really support the Lighthouse."

MHS Volunteer Cathy Kouchakji said " This is amazing. We have 3 - 4 times the number of people we expected! And it is so wonderful that the LIghthouse keepers kin made the effort to come as well!"

MHS Volunteer Donna Cushing said: "It's so wonderful that so many people have come out. I think they are here because they are in favor of our Lighthouse and want to support it. Its such a great thing for a community."

1906 Newspaper boy Bailey Kouchakji shared an interesting tidbit: "Each lighthouse has a different address: Mukilteo's address is "two (2) seconds on, three (3) seconds off". Did I mention that Bailey is only seven (7) years old! Bailey also shared with me that he helped design the outside lighting for the lighthouse as well as the MHS "milk carton" lighthouse (not pictured). When pressed, Bailey looked me straight in the eye and said, "trust me, I do a lot of things"! Go Bailey!

Haunted House Fire Scare! : On our final night of performance, we had quite an unscheduled scare at the Gene Nastri School Annual Haunted House at Rosehill. Around 7:00pm or so, a ghost came to my prehistoric cave and told me that smoke was filling an exhibit upfront. I raced up front and quickly noted an unusual odor that did not smell like smoke but was becoming exponentially thick. I scanned for kids, grabbed the levitating grim reaper performer, and raced out of the affected area. We rapidly ushered out all patrons and performers. The fire alarm went off and 911 was called. The Mukilteo Fire Department arrived quickly and saved the day! The "smoke" was actually powder from a knocked over fire extinguisher! Super fans quickly cleared the air and we were back to haunting in no time!

AM PM Shooting at Everett 03/06/2006 : A friend of mine alerted me about this unfolding drama - I grabbed my Nikon D2X and raced to the scene. I arrived a little before 12:00 noon. Did not hear shots but saw more police officers in so many places than I have ever seen. When I arrived, attention was focused on the rear of the AMPM building. Two women were being questioned in the back of the building by a group of officers and later escorted to a house across the street. I was later told that both women were employees of AMPM - the black woman was the gunman's target. (The blonde woman's name tag said she was "Tina"). Finally, a decision was made to enter the building from the rear. It appeared that the person who entered came out pretty quick and everyone looked relieved but he looked a little sick. Later learned that he must have seen the gunman with the bullet wound to his head. Most of these images are unedited - just check the exif data for confirmation. If interested in purchase for publication, please call my cell at 425-343-8472. These images are otherwise unavailable for purchase.

Quiet Zone Council Meeting : 02/06/2006: The Mukilteo City Council entertained and approved (4-3) the Port of Everett's request to receive transferable noise mitigation credits in exchange for agreeing to implement the previously negotiated CQM $600K "quiet zone" even though the CQM agreement was silent in this regard. The Port said that they needed to get something for all the money they would have to spend on the Quiet Zone. I thought they were getting CQM's agreement not to appeal. Oh well. Key players present were CQM Lawyer (and Mukilteo resident) Scott Decker, Old Town resident (and historian) Pat Kessler, Port Director John Mohr and his sidekick Ed P., City Attorney Jim Haney and City Administrator Rich Leahy.

Calgary: People Parties Architecture Petra Exhibit : Calgary has changed tremendously since my last visit 15 years ago. The city is alive with energy and good will. And...great BBQ! The Petra Exhibit at Glenbow Museum was fun to tour - but I'm afraid the displayed Petra artifacts are not of the same caliber as those of Ancient Maya or Egypt. My favorite time was spent with the Chacmool archaeologists and anthropologists - incredible stories, fascinating theories. I've designed this gallery so people can download the image for free (just drag to desktop) or order an excellent print for a nominal fee. Smugmug uses the best printing technology I've seen for commercial printing. If anyone wants to use a photo for publication, please give photo credit to "Terry Preshaw".

Beacon Initiative : On Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Anita Farris heard arguments from Initiative Attorney Richard M. Stephens, representing Plaintiff Kevin Stoltz, and from City of Mukilteo Attorney Jim Haney (Ogden Murphy Wallace). Judge Farris resides in Mukilteo and offered to remove herself from this case. Neither attorney objected to her presiding so the hearing proceeded. Time was of the essence - a decision was needed within two days in order to meet November ballot deadlines. Judge Farris was unable to make a decision immediately because of the complexity of the law governing this case. She promised a decision by next Friday.
