Karate Visit from Master Kise May 2008 : Mukilteo Family YMCA 10601 47th Place West Mukilteo, WA 98275 425-327-6610 Fax: 425-945-3743 For Release: Immediate Contact: Jay Gravelle 425-327-6610 Karate Grand Master Kise Visits Mukilteo Family YMCA (Mukilteo, WA) - The Mukilteo YMCA is proud and honored to announce the visit of Grand Master Fusei Kise and his 7th Degree Black Belt John Shipes to Mukilteo on May 9th and 10th at the Mukilteo Family YMCA. The media is invited to watch and take pictures. There will be a special presentation to Master Kise by the mayor of Mukilteo on May 9th at 3:30pm. There will also be a short time allowed for questions. Master Kise holds a 10th Degree Black Belt in Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate and Kobudo and is the President of the Okinawan Shorin Ryu Matsumura Karate and Kobudo Federation. He is also a 9th Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Kempo and a 10th Degree Black Belt in Shorinji Ryu Karate. Grand Master Kise has Dojo's (Schools) all over the world. His headquarters is located in Okinawa City, Okinawa Japan. Grand Master Kise makes trips to the United States once a year and also travels to other countries as well to teach the art of Karate and Kobudo (Weapons). Master Kise was born on May 4, 1935. He began his study of Karate in 1947. In 2001 the Government of Japan gave there Seal of Approval to the accuracy of Master Kise's book. They have stated that he (Grand Master Kise ) is the sole true heir to Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate, being passed down to him from Grand Master Hohan Soken. This has been entered into the official Government Archives. In April of 2001 Grand Master Kise was selected by the Japanese Parliament to receive a prestigious Lifetime Achievement award. He met with senators, other dignitaries and with the other Karate Grand Masters who are received awards (4 or 5 other Grand Masters from Okinawa) at a luncheon in Naha. Master Kise was the model for Mr. Myagi in the Karate Kid movies. He travels from Okinawa every year for the camps in the United States where hundreds of students come to train with him. About the YMCA and NorthWest Budokan Karate Program The YMCA and NorthWest Budokan Karate classes include all aspects of traditional Shorin-Ryu karate, founded by 5th Degree black Belt, Jay Gravelle. Self-defense focuses on real life application. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday 7:00-8:30pm at the Mukilteo and Monroe YMCAs. Participants must be 14 years of age unless approved by the instructor. All fitness levels welcome! No experience needed & and beginners are encouraged. The YMCA also has Youth Karate/Self-defense Classes in Mukilteo, Everett and Monroe. ROSEHILL HAUNTED HOUSE 2007 : Once again it is time to visit the ghostly "ghoullary" known as the Rosehill Haunted House sponsored by the non profit Gene Nastri School! This year's theme is "Ghosts of Pirates Past" with a surprise ending - and we aren't clowning around about that! Wicked Wench of the West Linda Wooding offers a goblet o' eyeballs to those who wander into the nefarious "Wench's Den". She will tell your fortune if you pluck an eye - because then she can "see" into your future!" Haunted House will be held October 25 -30thm at Rosehill Community Center in Old Town Mukilteo. Doors open at 6:00pm.

Kamiak Water Balloon World Record June 03 2005 : Friday June 03 2005 at Kamiak Soccer Field: Kamiak Seniors and Juniors battle Sophomores and Freshmen battle at a high noon showdown (well, really it was 1:00 PM but it would have been "high noon" had it not been for daylight savings time!) between the classes which was documented for entry in the Guinness Book of Records. 10,950 water ballons were launched by 1,046 people. Cost of balloons: $250 Gallons of Water: 900 Duration: 8 minutes. Event was covered by CNN, KOMO and KING5 and made a splash in all of the local papers!

Rosehill Revue 2006 05/06/2006 : The 10th Annual Rosehill Revue, sponsored by the nonprofit Gene Nastri Community School of the Arts, held on Saturday, May 06 at Rosehill, was a great success and enjoyed by over 150 people. Of course the most anticipated act was the venerated "Rosebuds" who surprise us each year with new and wacky on-stage antics. Mayor Joe Marine was both the emcee and a featured Rosebud.
